Photography from 1990 - 1995 of the Camin Spital in
SIGHETU MARMATIEI, MARAMURES ROMANIA

This is an old painting that used to hang on the front entrance of the Camin Spital and the sign says,
tell me dear mother
why have you left
you left without me
with a lot I have loved you

This day we were taken outside to have fun, and it was also the day where the director was not present
to allow Chiprain and my adoptive mother to enter the gate to visit us. We had to convince the guard that they would not go up stairs
and that they would stay right in front of the gate to be able to hang out with us.

The gate that I was talking about is behind these folks. no one is allowed to enter the orphanage if they do not work there, unless
the guard allows you to enter.
The guy is colleen, he was Debbie's and Marlys's translator while trying to adopt us.
Chiprain was another kid that left the orphanage the same day as I did and Debbie was adopting him, while Marlys was adopting me.
Next to colleen is Romona, Dina, and Emilia.

This is Jannia, who had also come to the US in 1993, with the group of 12 other Children.
Jannia went back to Romania in 2002 to live with her birth family and she is happy living at home.
I was worried if the parent's would have kept her this time, but they did and they seem to be a happy family from the latest up date
Rumor has it that Jannia has memory loss.

I love this picture. The tall American is Marlys and the short American is Debbie.
The reason I say tall and short American is because in the orphanage we (the kids) did not know their names
and so we called them the tall American and the short American.

Debbie, Chip, and the taxi driver that waited for them until they left.
Chiprain loved going through Debbie's purrs trying to find candy or something interesting

Here is another picture of them on the third floor hallway.

This is Dina standing next to the very first Christmas tree that we ever had in the orphanage.
They planned a pretty big day for us on Christmas day.
we had a huge crowed from Holland, Germany, and lots of Romanian authorities , and all the staffs were their
weather they were off or on duty.
We did a Christmas performance and we got to see Santa clouts and lots of candy were given out.

Olga, mama Heyrascu, and Dina.

The first Christmas that we had, we also had our pictures taken by a photographer hired by the staffs at the orphanage.
The staffs really wanted us to have a fine Christmas day and for us all to have a fun day.
later on that day we went to the director's house to sing Christmas carols, and his wife cooked us home made meals.
We watched colored television for the first time and we were so amazed that he had a colored TV instead of a black and white.
Vorel, was very good with us the kids, and he checked on us quite a few times to see if we needed any thing else and told us to eat as much as we wanted
while we were at his house.

here are the staffs and the tall guy that you see standing in the back is vorel, our former director.
In 2006, I had tried visiting him while I was in Romania, but because he was so sick I don't think he was able to answer the door or even knew that I was in Romania.
While he was sick his two children were also very ill.
The people of Maramures donated thousands of dollars to be able to fly his son to Israel for an operation, but not even an operation could save his only son.
His son passed away in Israel, but before he died he asked his mother to fly him back home for funeral.
On the day his body arrived back to Maramures every single church bell sounded it's bell to remember who he was.
I went to the funeral and even then I was not able to see or find vorel, but many of the Romanian orphans and young adults from the old folks home were their to pay their kind respect to this young 21 year old man

Here you see teens and kids sitting in a school room where eduction was given in the morning and at noon it was a hang out place for us.
The school benches were donated by the Dutch. The Lady in white is Emilia, a very nice worker that worked with us until I left in 1991.

This picture is of kids watching Television in the morning after breakfast.

Kids learning to perform folk dance and folk music as part of their educational program The guy up front is Cardos daniel, one of the smartest kids in the Camin Spital. As you may know he was never given the opportune to be educated because he was an orphan

here is another picture of kids in the school room.
The girl that you see in blue is Ildi mica (little Ildi) who also came to the US in 1993. I have not seen her or spoken with her since she came.

Dina and Emilia giving out clean clothes to the kids. This was also the room where I used to sleep before i left the orphanage

Emilia and Dina working on the first floor since they had gotten transfered from the third floor to work with the babies

Tibi, Lushica, Marika, and a worker in 2001 while in Romania with ABC news 20/20.

This is the entrance to the third floor, the most popular visiting place out of all the other floors by tourist.
